Pepper Spray control chaotic demonstrators in New York
“Deputy Inspector Bologna is disappointed at the results of the department investigation. His actions prevented further injury and escalation of tumultuous conduct. To date, this conduct has not been portrayed in its true context,” said Roy Richter, President of the NYPD.
New York police, Deputy Inspector Anthony Bologna, has been given internal disciplinary actions that could lead to 10 days of suspension. Police officials said that the Inspector uses pepper spray in a chaotic crowd.
The rules on pepper spray clearly states that it should only be used primarily to control a suspect who refuse and resist an arrest, or for protection. However, it does allow for its use in “chaotic situation”, but only by officers with particular history of training.
Deputy Inspector Bologna can accept the charge and plead guilty, or he has an option for a departmental trial. Raymond W. Kelly, Police Commissioner, is the arbiter of penalty in such issues and has wide tolerance in his decisions.
